Mike Meeks, Casey Scheer, and Donna Blum just returned from HP Discover 2011, a new enterprise business event for all alumni of HP Software Universe, HP Technology Forum, and HP Technology@Work. Las Vegas is hot this time of year, but even more so last week with this event. Over 10,000 people attended the conference and experienced HP’s entire portfolio of products, solutions, and services.

The Discover Zone was a massive trade show floor featuring black carpeting, neon lights, and a plethora of hot new technology gadgets.  The Discover Zone opened with a welcome reception on Monday night, June 7^th and was a hub of activity. 

During the event, BHMI had the opportunity to meet with key HP representatives, partners, and clients.  As an exhibitor, BHMI promoted its 25 years of experience developing enterprise software applications on the NonStop, Unix, Linux, and Wintel platforms.

BHMI received a Milestone Award from the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce for achieving 25 years of business success.  The award was given at the Big O! Excellence Awards at the CoCo Key Water Resort-Hotel-Convention Center.  The BHMI team members that attended this event, and are pictured below, have all been with the company for more than 20 years.   “The loyalty and commitment of our employees is one of the primary reasons for our success,” stated Jack Baldwin, Chairman of BHMI.  “It is an honor being recognized for this major corporate milestone.”

Since 1998, Baldwin Hackett & Meeks, Inc. (BHMI), a leading software solutions provider, has had a very active internship program running three separate sessions each year – Spring, Summer, and Fall.  During each session, BHMI employs anywhere from 4 to 7 interns.   These interns have come from University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI), Bellevue University, University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL), Nebraska Wesleyan, University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), Dana College, and Peru State College. 

 When choosing intern candidates, BHMI looks for Junior or Senior level students with an average GPA of 3.6 or higher who are majoring in computer science and/or computer engineering.  During their time at BHMI, interns are exposed to the most contemporary technologies such as JAVA, .Net, C++, Python, XML, web development frameworks, Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, Sybase, and MySQL, automated test tools, and source code management.  Interns are assigned to projects as junior team members and, over time, are exposed to increasingly complex projects.

Six interns were selected for the 2011 Summer session from four college campuses:

• Creighton University (1)
• UNL (1)
• UNL – Omaha Campus (1)
• UNO (3)

BHMI has been helping companies in a wide range of industries leverage and expand their HP NonStop investment with innovative software solutions, including the Concourse – Transaction Messaging System™. BHMI will be showcasing its products and services at the HP DISCOVER 2011 event in Las Vegas from June 6^th through June 10^th.

BHMI launched a new video and website for the Concourse Financial Software Suite™, which performs back-office processing for electronic payment transactions.  This includes settlement, reconciliation, disputes management, and fees processing.

The new video discusses how Concourse Financial Software modernizes and increases the value of back-office transaction processing environments.

The new website features a topic paper and brochure that illustrate how Concourse Financial Software makes back-office transaction processing environments fast and agile.

BHMI is celebrating  25 years of business success.  In honor of this major milestone, BHMI is giving away an Apple iPad 2.  Register to win by June 15, 2011.  

BHMI also created an anniversary video that highlights major technology advancements as well as some of the company’s accomplishments over the past quarter century.  

BHMI created a Learning Objects Web Portal for SCOLA, a non-profit organization that is helping people around the world learn about other cultures, languages, and ideologies.  One of SCOLA’s primary goals is to leverage modern information technology to overcome language barriers.  SCOLA currently provides a wide range of subscription-based language learning services, including international online TV, videos, radio, and newspapers.  These services represent an abundant amount of language learning resources from across the globe.  

SCOLA had the vision of leveraging its resources to create an innovative set of language learning tools called Learning Objects, which are multimedia lessons that help individuals acquire a language, using a variety of technologies such as video, audio, and self-correcting questions. To make this vision a reality, SCOLA required a web portal to facilitate communication and information access for a number of user groups, including administrators, authors, translators, and subscribers. 

“Over the years, SCOLA has acquired extensive international language resources and we wanted to use this information to create highly effective and interactive Learning Objects for our customers,” said Francis Lajba, President and CEO of SCOLA.  “The web portal BHMI developed is allowing us to compile the necessary content, manage the approval process, and release the Learning Objects quickly and reliably.”

BHMI exhibited at the Debit Evolution 2011 PULSE Conference in New Orleans from April 11^th through April 13^th.  During the conference, BHMI showcased the Concourse Financial Software Suite™ – a powerful PCI compliant back-office software solution specifically designed to manage electronic payments including credit, debit, POS, ATM, mobile, and prepaid transactions.  With a continuous processing architecture and user-configurable business rules, Concourse performs the settlement and reconciliation of all transaction types, automates the process of disputes management, and proactively assesses and allocates fees for all business relationships.

BHMI recently released a new corporate video and website that explain what sets BHMI apart from other software development companies. The video demonstrates how BHMI is helping companies adapt and innovate by creating software solutions that streamline business processes, reduce operating costs, and improve customer satisfaction. 

The website features a helpful resource center with a wide range of topic papers that offer advice in a variety of areas including software development outsourcing, offshoring, and homeshoring.  The new site also provides visitors the ability to learn about BHMI’s capabilities through real world case studies.  These case studies demonstrate the depth and breadth of BHMI’s ability by sharing details about the various types of complex projects the company has successfully completed in the past.
